dear friends ...
i got talked into an
overnight camping trip this past weekend.
i know .... take a moment .... let it sink in...
{me, my mister, mike, susan, emily holding molly, blake}
let me start at the beginning ...
my husband's family owns
a beautiful piece of land
with an incredibly beautiful pond
& woods .... lots of woods.
this is my mister's
most favorite place in the entire world.
he loves to go there to fish & camp out.
well, we've been married almost 15 years
& I have none neither of the 2 with him there.
{guilty, as charged!}
so, he planned a camping trip
with 2 other couples from church &
i had planned on going to participate in
the out-of-doors experience until around 11pm
& then politely slip off
to my in-law's home
where there happens to be indoor plumbing & electricity.
enter my mama, who said these words to me ...
"you have a good husband & if he wants you to
spend the night camping in the woods...
that's what you do ... you go camping!"
to which i said,
"yes ma'am."
i know this may be hard for you all
to believe, but i am not an
outdoorsy type of gal ...
but in the name of wifedom,
i put on my earbobs, grabbed my dooney & burke
pocket book, & headed deep into those woods.
when I say deep .... i mean DEEEEEEEPPPPP!
no cabin, rv, electricity, running water.
the only facilities we had consisted of a 5 gallon bucket,
thank you very much!
we did have tents.
however, when it came time to settle down
i had the brilliant idea to sleep in the back of my jeep.
you see, i have always been a firm believer
in not getting mauled to death by a wild animal
during a good night's sleep.
& i felt that sleeping in my vehicle
would offer the secure perimeter from
all God's creatures, big & small, that
i prefer whilst i slumber.
well, thank the Lord,
all 6 of us survived the night.
& i have to admit ...
i enjoyed sitting around the campfire
{except when my pants leg
accidently caught fire for a split second},
{beautiful!}
lesson learned:
sometimes in marriage we have to
do things that aren't our first choice,
but it's totally worth it!!!!
